Experience in a new name

– Sam J Basch

Systems integrators might be surprised to meet with South African company Etion Create (Hall C1-03) at IDEX this week when they realise it has a well-established reputation in the global market. Etion Create still provides professional product development and integration services to leading electronics equipment companies and system integrators, as it used to do under its previous name of Parsec.

“Our clients around the world have come to know our expertise in the areas of software, firmware, hardware and CAD design, built up over almost 20 years, as an original design manufacturer” explained Etion Create business development director Tobie van Loggerenberg. “The new name came derived from a total restructuring of the entire group, now called Etion Limited. Along with our fellow Etion subsidiaries, the group supplies an integrated offering and product ecosystem.”

He added that the Etion Create offering is supported by an overarching system engineering process and directed by sound project management practice.

A flagship board-level product on display, developed at the behest of Saab South Africa and GEW (now part of Hensoldt), is the VF370, a 3U OpenVPX single board computer (SBC) module. It offers scalable processing power and flexible IO options for reduced SWaP (size, weight and power) applications.

Typical applications include rugged mission computers for aerospace, maritime and land systems, or ultra HD video and graphic processing and symbology overlay. This makes it ideal for EW and jammer systems, including manpack units.

According to Van Loggerenberg, the Etion Create modules have also found ready application in industrial systems, notably global firm GE’s renewable energy programmes.

Etion Create continues to deliver weapon integration solutions, based on its experience on South African systems, such as the missile and rocket launchers for the Rooivalk attack helicopter. This has expanded into international markets, where Etion is collaborating with the Sharjah (UAE) based AAL Group, which supplies a full spectrum of rotary wing aviation solutions to a range of customers.
